Happy World Nutella Day!

Blogger of the Day: Solveig at Gluten-Free-Vegan-Girl

Lovely Norwegian Solveig is a dedicated vegan and animal defender, graceful yoga practitioner and stunningly impressive vegan recipe developer, photographer and blogger...and she's just finishing up high school! At her age I think I was just managing to make toast without burning down the house.  ;)

The yumfully rich tastes of hazelnuts and chocolate unite for one of this world's most mindpopping creations...sweet spreadable vegan nutella! Use it on bread, waffles, ice cream, in oatmeal, on sweet potatoes, frosted on brownies...whatever you like, but most of the time it won't make it out of your mixing bowl. It's just too easy to eat the whole batch with a spoon! I like Solveig's verson because at least you're getting protein, it's sweetened with dates, not sugar and holynutmash it's squealingly good!

Have you ever tried vegan nutella? Would you make it with hazelnuts or some other kind of nut or nut mix? How might you use it? I’m thinking a simple jar of it wrapped up in some heart paper and a bow would charm any valentine! :)

Hazelnuts...The Humble Underdog

Happy National Nut Day!
Almonds, cashews, pecans, walnuts, even macadamia nuts all have their special day...but not the yumful hazelnut!
In honor of this humble underdog of the nut world, let's make today Hazelnut Day!
BTW...some people call them filberts.  :)

Most hazelnut aficionados recommend skinning hazelnuts to remove any bitter taste. Here's how...
Using baking soda and boiling water from Mattie at VeganBaking

Or you can buy them blanched.

Are you head over heels over hazelnuts? Have you used hazelnut milk or hazelnut flour in your recipes? What other underdog foods deserve a holiday?
