Happy Apple Fritter Day!

Blogger of the Day: Michelle at Feed Your Skull

It's actually National Greasy Foods Day but call me a rebel...I don't groove on grease, so today's feature is fritters of the appley kind. Baked to healthy perfection, courtesy of Michelle.  :)

Meet Michelle...
• She's now a high raw vegan...lots of smoothies, snacks and fruity noodles to love.
• ...oh, and sauerkraut. This girl lives to ferment!
• Her baked oatmeals are ridiculously easy and yumfully wonderful.
• Halloween is one of her favorite Skullebrations!
• She feeds on clever crafts and wickedcool tees.  ;)

What's your favorite fried food? Do you have a greasy spoon hangout? What do you usually order?  :)

Happy National Apple Month!

Blogger of the Day: Kelly at Vegan Thyme

My top 10 reasons to groovehappy in Fall...
• Halloween candy
• crazycreative Halloween costumes
• collecting ginkgo leaves
• thick hoodie sweatshirts
• spices...sales, specials and new catalogs
• spiked & spicy hot drinks
• pumpkin carving (I suck at it but it's fun and messy and you get to roast pumpkin seeds!)
• pumpkin squares
• casseroles and chili bowls, especially topped with crushed chips
• sweet potatoes, pears and apples, apples, apples!

Fuji, Gala, Honeycrisp, Granny Smith...some people play favorites but I love them all. You can get apples all year long but Fall is when the new crops roll out by the truckload. Farmers' markets are full of them but even better is a trip to pick your own! Find farms (stick with organic!), varieties and pick up tips, then hit the road!  :)

Kelly is a frequent Fall farm visitor...every year she picks up a bucketful of apples, then creates spinningly yumful pies and cakes and crumbles and more...all so good! My list of Vegan Thyme bookmarks is a mile long...it was so hard to pick just a few to feature! Check out her website for zillions more recipes (she's a baking maniac so expect lots of craveworthy cakes!) and say hi to her new Great Pyr pup too!  :)

Reason #11...Chicago VeganMania is this weekend...Yippee!

Name your...favorite kind of apple? favorite apple dessert? Favorite things about Fall?  :)

Happy National Hot Mulled Cider Day!

Blogger of the Day: Mary at Mitten Machen

After you're done bouncing around the pumpkin patch looking for a cute squash to carve, make a hefty pot of this hot spicy stuff and drink up! Mary knows how to make a wickedyumful mug of cider and more warming treats (and knitted mittens too!) because when you live in Maine you need to keep your inner fires deliciously stoked. Even if you're swimming in a heat wave now, save this recipe for those cold nights when it's just you, a movie and a thick quilt...and a plate of cinnamony cookies!  :)

Will you be visiting a pumpkin patch this season? What's your formula for the perfect warmup drink?  ;)

Happy National Apple Dumpling Day!

Blogger of the Day: Noelle at Opera Singer in the Kitchen
Pubs: Creative Cuisine (vegan, gluten-free friendly)

In my family music and food have always gone together. My grandparents were opera singers so arias always accompanied the arancini. My dad dug jazz so Ella tunes went with the tiramisu. Mom hums opera, my sister croons country. I didn't inherit any musical talent but I belt out Annie Lennox with my brownies nonetheless. I'd love to know what's on the program in Noelle's kitchen...La Traviata with her Lasagna? Carmen with her Carne Asada? Figaro with her Flautas?  ;)

Regardless of the soundtrack, Noelle has created some crazydelicious vegan recipes. When I first found her blog she featured lots of vegan comfort food in addition to international dishes...she has since switched to the carnivore side but she's left all her superyumful vegan recipes up on the blog...yay! Apple dumplings are a perfect place to start digging in...apples are coming into season now so you can try Noelle's recipe with all sorts of apple goodness!  :)

What's your favorite form of dumpling? Do you sing in the kitchen? What song do you have floating in your head right now?  ;)
