Happy National Fettuccine Alfredo Day!

Blogger of the Day: Molly at Quiche-a-Week

Whenever I mouthed off as a kid (which was mostly rarely. hardly ever. sorta.) my mom would say I took after my dad's side of the family. The loudly inyourface but lovably huggable Brooklyn side of my BigItalianFamily. I took that as a compliment. One of my best buds says my twisty wit keeps him in chuckles. I can't get through a day without a juicy jab of sarcasm aimed at one of life's little ironies so I'm drawn to Molly's Quiche-a-Week like a hungry coyote to a road runner.  ;)

Smartly sarcastic and supertalented in the kitchen, Molly is a funny, feisty, veggie-lovin' blogger dishing it out in deliciously badass style. Loads of crazygood, veganfriendly recipes and tantalizing texty photos, straight outta the brassy heart of NYC. Love it!

Molly's spin on classic fett alfredo is everything a vegan wants it to be...a heap of healthy noodles swimming in a thick rich "cheezy" sauce. My Brooklyn grandma would heartily approve. Dig in!  :)

Have you ever alfredo'ed your noodles? Do you prefer pasta noodles, rice noodles or another veggie version? Have you ever been to Brooklyn? Who is the smart aleck in your family?  ;)

Last year's alternative alfredos and more noodle options.  :)

Happy National Chopsticks Day!

Blogger of the Day: Heather at Sunday Morning Banana Pancakes

Any girl who names her blog after my favorite meal is already scoring bigtime points in my book, plus extra bonus points for her dreamy photos too! Each post is a gorgeous pictorial essay of the recipe from start to finish...I especially love those with whimsically textful ingredient shots. Heather emphasizes the beautiful bounty of the garden and how to bring out the best from each delectable element. The recipes themselves are a rich mix of flavors and colors, and they are totally doable by bumbly bloggers like me. It's so fun to explore new cuisines and combinations and then impress the bloomers off everyone when you plant the final dish on the table!  :)

When I was little my grandpa used to take us out once a month for Chinese food and my mom is a stir fry fiend so I learned to eat with chopsticks early on. I'm actually ridiculously laughable at using them. I once shot a chickpea across the table into my brother's soup...he's lucky I didn't hit him square in the eye. Sorry kiddo...next time better bring your goggles.  ;)

I still love using chopsticks because they're boatloads of fun plus they keep you from eating your food too fast. A yumful bowl of Heather's soba noodles or a row of her spring rolls or even a truffle or two will last a luxuriously long time if you twirl them up with chopsticks!  :)

You can't visit a pancake-themed blog without digging into a stack and I promise you, this one is sooooo worth it! I give you permission to put down the sticks and grab your pancake fork.  ;)

Do you ever eat with chopsticks? Just Asian food or any edible thing? What else might you do with chopsticks? Challenge...how fast can you eat 10 chickpeas with your trusty chopsticks?  ;)

Happy National Spaghetti Day!

Bloggers of the Day: Stacy and Keith at Vegan Fatty Boombalatty

Mention spaghetti and I think Sunday nights, movies and Mom's weekly meatball and pasta tradition. Every Sunday afternoon Mom would start a giant pot of her homemade pasta sauce, filling the house with the sounds and smells of sizzling onions and garlic and slowly simmering tomatoes and herbs. Next she expertly rolled her own meatballs and neatly dunked those in. Finally she fired up another giant pot on the stove, boiling and bobbing with pasta in one form or another. Somehow it all reached the point of perfection at the same moment. We'd haul out the TV tables, pop in a movie and Mom would hand everyone a generous plate of pasta and meatballs, sauce and parmesan. If it was spaghetti you'd get a fork and a big spoon. Some people twirl their spaghetti on the plate, some do it in the air...we were two-handed spoonspinners. The movie would start and the only other sounds you'd hear were twirling, slurping and going back for seconds.  :)

Okay, how can you not love a blog with the word "Boombalatty" anywhere in it? In addition to homey and filling international dishes, Stacy will happily spin spaghetti all day any day, so she and photo partner Keith are the perfect blogging team for National Spaghetti Day!

Do you like spaghetti with tomato sauce or white sauce or just a little olive oil? Are you a spoonspinner or platetwirler...or a scoop-and-slurper? Do you have weekly family food traditions? Did you ever have a nickname like Boombalatty?  ;)
