Happy Navy Bean Day!

Blogger of the Day: Kelly at vegga

Kelly is a supercrafty puppyloving vegan with a weakness for witfilled words and yumful muffins! She also knows how to spin a bean or two so she's a natural for Navy Bean Day!  :)

Navy beans are the humble cousins of Great Northern beans and cannellini beans, and are essential to our capital's legendary Senate Bean Soup, a simple mix of navy beans, onions and ham hocks. Wait...ham hocks?? Grrrr! Senatepeople, you should know better! And you should be healthier and more compassionate! I appeal to you today, on the anniversary of the passage of the United States Bill of Rights, please ensure the rights of pigs and all animals to live and breathe and dream free! Start by ditching the hocks and adding some hunks of tempeh to your soup instead! Or seitan or spuds or whatever floats your senatorial boats...veganize your beany tradition!

Today is also the anniversary of the establishment of Sequoia National Park...go hug a tree to celebrate!  :)

How do you eat navy beans? Have you been to Wash DC? What vegan eats did you find? Have you seen a sequoia?  :)

Celebrate some more with our 2014 Daily Food Holiday and Featured Blogger Series!

ps...I love synchronicity! Kelly just posted her Kale and Navy Bean Soup
Senatorpeople...now you have no excuse! This recipe is meant for you!  :)
