Wise Spice Advice

Happy Cook Something Bold & Pungent Day!
Spices are a creative cook's Crayolas...enter a spice market and the endless rows of earthen hues, stimulating scents and arrays of flavors will crank your culinary gears in a thousand different delicious directions.

So I say go bold and challenge tradition! Spices know no boundaries...they infuse into every cuisine with ease. Let go of your inhibitions and play away with them! Make up a taco recipe that uses Chinese five-spice powder. Stir fry some soba noodles using za'atar. Add aji panca to your chocolate ganache. As a good friend said to me recently when I commented on her salad cream and mint jelly sandwich, "don't knock it til you've tried it". Sounds like wise spice advice to me.  ;)

Blend them any way you like, experiment just like you did as a kid with that giant box of crayons. Taste, change, refine and revise until it feels right. Then share your spicy delight!  :)

  1. Speaking of “Pungent” Day, does Stinky Tofu count? I would love to try Local Kitchen’s Spicy Curry w/ Potatoes & Kale and Lots of Nice Things’ Spicy Chickpea & Cauliflower Patties with Spring Onion Chapatis. I guess I like any dishes that seem spicy! Hehe, we made chocolate tamales last summer, it was okay, but I’m not a huge fan of sweet tamales. I like moderately spicy foods (i.e., love Sriracha on anything), my partner loves extremely spicy foods. I can’t live without Madras/Oriental curry powder, white pepper and 5-Spice powder. Lol, ground roasted Thai chili peppers was the hottest spiciest thing I’ve ever eaten.

    1. wowiezowie...if Stinky Tofu is as crazystinkyspicy as Ellen and Eddie say it is, then heckyes it counts!
      I'm with you on Sriracha...somehow it rocks everything I try it on! :)
