Traditional cool climate cultivation of rhubarb involves forcing, a technique which uses terracotta covers to facilitate the plants' growth. Seeing rows of these solemn ceramic sentinels quietly silent in a garden makes me want to grow rhubarb myself...there's just something proud and beautiful about them and the tradition. Plus they make more delicious rhubarb possible all season...yippee! :)
