Happy National Sandwich Day!

Bloggers of the Day: Meg and Todd at Beard and Bonnet

Sandwiches make the world go round so it's always a happy day when we can celebrate these handfuls of yum!  :)

November is also Teff and Millet month! These two grains are blissfully gluten-free...teff's nutty flavor makes it ideal for baking, and millet is delicious in a bowl or in breads (my favorite!). Bread and Bonnet is the perfect place to learn more about these crazycool grains, plus fabulous sandwiches too!

Meg and Todd also create colorfully photographed step-by-step tutorials on how to make...
Hummus
Hot Sauce
Fruit Roll-Ups
Vegan Parmesan Cheese
and more, plus gluten-free goodies like...
Gluten Free 101: Teff Flour
Beard and Bonnet's Custom Flour Blend

Some of their sandwiches are simple, some are more complex but even the parts are worth making separately. The pesto from their pesto patties is soooo good on pasta too and the couscous from their wraps rocks!  :)

Happy Barley Day!

Blogger of the Day: Lee at The Vegan Version

I am such a cheap date...take me on an evening trip to the local co-op and I'll be overthemoon happy especially if it ends with a superyumful meal! Our co-op store has it all...organic everything, fresh local fruits & veggies, my fave vegan bakery, vegan salads and sammies from the deli, sampling days (the best!) and a huge bulk section where you can buy boatloads of beans, grains and soup mixes for much less than bigbrand boxed versions. There's always something new to discover and today it's barley! One of the most healthful grains on the planet, it's high in fiber and B vitamins like niacin and it's ohsogood for breakfast! But today it's gonna be these spiced up mushroom burgers from Lee. She knows how to throw easy ingredients together to create downhome comfort foods, plus she whips up all sorts of worldlywonderful stuff like Lahmajun and Mexican Skillet Lasagna...and Arancini!  :)

Today's cheap date has to end in healthy burgers so bulkbin barley burgers it is!

And because Lee says "Everything is better wrapped in Phyllo"...

Do you cook with barley? Have you tried grain-based veggie burgers? Do you buy from bulk bins when you food shop? What's your favorite thing to do on a cheap date?  ;)

Happy Spelt Day!

Bloggers of the Day: Mike and Catrell at The Wandering Coconut

Spelt is a one of many grains in the wheat family with loads of nutritional goodness...it's easier to digest than wheat so sometimes people who are sensitive to wheat can tolerate spelt instead (though it's not gluten-free). Its rich nutty flavor is a favorite in things like spelt spaghetti, cereals and crunchable crispbreads...yumza!

Professional travel agents Mike and Catrell happily globegallop with their three sons, meeting exciting people, learning about cultures and cuisines, and sharing their veg-friendly recipes too! Their lookout on life is all about health and wellness and enjoying life...Mike says:
• Food should be enjoyed, not feared
• Avoid processed foods and eat mainly a whole food plant-based diet
• Eat a wide variety of fruits and vegetables daily
• Travel and staying healthy can go hand-on-hand
