Happy National Sandwich Day!

Bloggers of the Day: Meg and Todd at Beard and Bonnet

Sandwiches make the world go round so it's always a happy day when we can celebrate these handfuls of yum!  :)

November is also Teff and Millet month! These two grains are blissfully gluten-free...teff's nutty flavor makes it ideal for baking, and millet is delicious in a bowl or in breads (my favorite!). Bread and Bonnet is the perfect place to learn more about these crazycool grains, plus fabulous sandwiches too!

Meg and Todd also create colorfully photographed step-by-step tutorials on how to make...
Hummus
Hot Sauce
Fruit Roll-Ups
Vegan Parmesan Cheese
and more, plus gluten-free goodies like...
Gluten Free 101: Teff Flour
Beard and Bonnet's Custom Flour Blend

Some of their sandwiches are simple, some are more complex but even the parts are worth making separately. The pesto from their pesto patties is soooo good on pasta too and the couscous from their wraps rocks!  :)

Teff treats...

And stop in their shop for vintage jewels and kitchen gear!

What's your favorite sandwich stack? Are you a glutenfree vegan? Have you tried teff or millet? Which treasure would you choose from their shop?  :)

Hoagie, hero, grinder, sub...a big fat doublehandful of a sandwich can go by many names but it needs to be superpacked with your fave sammie ingredients and sauces and wedged into a giant chunk of bread. Go with traditional vegan meats and cheeses or take it up a notch with Alice's spectacular tempeh!

In addition to her professional website AliciaSimpson.com, Alice runs two foodfocused websites...The Lady and Seitan where she puts a vegan spin on Paula Deen's southern cooking and Vegan Guinea Pig where she posts reviews and recipes of her own. Her hoagie is a crowdpleaser especially on gamedays like today...if you don't have all the ingredients, sub in what you like and make your hoagie your own!  :)

Happy National Panini Month!

Bloggers of the Day: Kara, Damien & Heather at Laws On Wellness

August is always a busy month for us...summer projects to finish up, vacations & daytrips, BBQs and birthdays...so supersatisfying lunches are a must! Panini are fabulous fun because you get to pile on your favorite fixings and mash them into a stack of yum! According to Anthony Tripodi's The Everything Panini Press Cookbook

Even though the panini is of Italian origin, it has become popular all over the world. And now you'll find many different cuisines influencing panini sandwiches. Chinese wonton wrappers can be filled with all your favorite ingredients and cooked on the panini press. If you think all the best panini are made with Italian ingredients, you should try a taco panini wonton served with salsa...it's sure to change your mind.

And don't forget dessert panini!  :)

LOW's panini recipe is delightfully simplified...no press necessary and there's even an option to wrap it instead. Kara is an international basketball megastar, husband Damien is a pro fitness coach and partner Heather is a massage therapist. Together this vegan team creates extrahealthy crazydelicious hungercrushers to keep you fueled up and going strong!  :)

What are your favorite panini mashups?  ;)

Happy Bastille Day!

Blogger of the Day: Cherry at Parsley Soup

Happy Bastille Day! Today's the day to celebrate the Storming of the Bastille in 1789, and many other revolutionary events...
• The Fête de la Fédération, celebrating unity in France, in 1790
• The Exhibition of the Industry of All Nations, the first major US world's fair, in 1853
• The first ascent of the Matterhorn, one of the highest peaks in the Alps, in 1865
• The day Harry Atwood landed his plane on the White House lawn after a recordbreaking flight in 1911
• The George Washington Carver National Monument, the first US National Monument to honor an African American, was founded in 1943
Mariner 4 took the first closeup photos of another planet in 1965
• and my favorite...in 1960 Dr.Jane Goodall arrived at Gombe to begin her worldchanging studies of chimpanzees in the wild!

Jane is a true revolutionary...instead of ripping animals out of their natural habitat and shoving them into tiny zoo enclosures to study, she quietly and gently immersed herself into the chimps' world and learned volumes about these amazing apes. She is one of my heroes for her compassionate understanding of the animal world and the continued work she does, even at the age of 80 (!!), to ensure that all animals receive the honor and respect they deserve.  :)

Cherry at Parsley Soup is a revolutionary in the kitchen, veganizing meaty foods in yumfully creative ways. A crafty teacher living in the heart of England, she's not afraid to cross culinary borders to veganize traditional foreign favorites like the Croque Monsieur. The CM is the French version of a grilled ham and cheese sandwich, one of the world's most popular combos. Cherry's crueltyfree version is easy and simplydelish, so fire up your grill and join the vegan French revolution!  ;)

Tips...
• Use a Cooking Conversion Calculator to get US measurements & temps.
• Use a Culinary Dictionary to look up unfamiliar ingredients such as courgettes (zucchini) or aubergines (eggplant).

Do you celebrate Bastille Day? What's your favorite French treat? What helps you understand animals better...books, videos or joining them in their home?  :)
