Happy Bell Pepper Day and Wild Rice Week!

Blogger of the Day: April at Epicurean Vegan

Best things about bells:
• They're colorful...you'll find them in a bold rainbow of colors from green to red and even purple!
• They're plentiful...which means they're cheap, especially if you grow your own.
• They're flavorful...greens are mild, yellows, oranges and reds are sweeter.
• They're healthful...jampacked with vitamin C, plus loads of A and B6!
• They're stuffable!  :)

Wild rice FYI:
• True wild rice is considered a sacred gift by tribal cultures in North America.
• It's pure, natural, unmodified and harvested by hand in the upper midwest according to strict standards that preserve the environment and the tradition.
• It's a fascinating process that honors the earth and your good health too!  :)
• Rich in nutty flavor, it makes yumful stuffing!  :)

April is a treehugger, a writer, an illustrator and an animalsaving vegan. If you leave her alone with an empty pepper, you'll get a crazydelicious veghealthy dinner!  ;)

Happy HellaHot Chili Pepper Day!

Blogger of the Day: Morgan at Fo Reals Life
Pubs: Vegan Taco Party

Can you take the heat? It's chili pepper season so fire up your summer feasts with jalapenos, habaneros, serranos and poblanos! Which one to use? Here are simple descriptions and a graphic comparison using the Scoville scale to help you choose.

Habaneros can be hellahot but Morgan tones them down with sweetly ripe peaches. You can sub in milder peppers if you like or step down to a less peppery recipe...her Roasted Jalapeno Garlic Hummus is an easy place to start!  :)

How hot do you like your peppers? What's your favorite peppered up recipe? Do you know how to handle the heat? Have you ever been to a hot pepper festival?  ;)

Deep Freeze Remedy

Happy Pepper Pot Day!
Perfect weather for a wicked hot pepper pot! A pepper pot is a Caribbean-born soup or stew with lots of hot peppers, veggies and spices...and a choice of beans or tofu for us lucky vegans. Go crazy and use Appaloosa Beans or Black Turtle Beans or even Jackson Wonder Beans!  :)

Beautifully Hued Bells

Did you know that bell peppers come in almost every color? Red, yellow and green are the most common, but you can also look for orange, "chocolate" purple-brown, purple, white...a whole rainbow!
I recently bought a boatload of reds, oranges and yellows and I love them! They're supersweet, power-packed with vitamin C, and a cup of raw chopped peppers only has about 30 calories. Now I just need some colorful pepper inspiration...
