The Shape of Things to Come

Happy National Pasta Day!
The world's favorite comfort carb comes in dozens of crazy shapes and sizes...from shells and spirals to shamrocks and spiderwebs. Get hooked on those playful shapes as a kid and you can never kick the pasta habit!  ;)

Peace sign pasta is supercool, but I tend to stick to the shapes I grew up with...penne rigate, rigatoni, conchiglie and spaghetti. The one I use most often is rotini. These spunky spirals star in just about any dish you can dream up. They elegantly wear delicate sauces as easily as they stand up to sturdy stroganoffs and mighty mac and cheezes. Fusilli comes in at a close second but it's a bit more chunk of a chew. Somehow rotini get the pasta yin yang just right.  :)

What's your favorite pasta shape? Do you like red sauce, white sauce or pesto the best? Are meatballs a must?
